In Depth Philosophy
Lynn's Philosophy lies in her work with Dr. Evadne McNeil and her work with the Creativity Continuum. Creativity is a healing process that every person is capable of attaining. Lynn uses mindfullness-based processess to bring herself and her clients towards a connection with a deep place within themselves that is the place of creativity and healing.
Mindfulness teaches the following:
1) To become aware of how our body sensations and how/what they are expressing.
2) To observe thoughts, rather than react.
3) To "watch" inner experiences (thoughts, body sensations, feelings etc) until an answer from within comes in order to respond to life.
4) To find an inner calm through prayer, meditation, and yoga.
5) To express what one is experienceing inside through drawing, movement, sound, and play.
Lynn works using her knowledge of neurobiology to understand how the brain develops and processes information, in turn creating symptoms of depression, anxiety and other emotional difficulties. Processes such as art, play, yoga, and eye movements assist in restructuring the brain's neurological connections, creating new ways to respond and interact with life.
Lynn's work with children focuses on these creative techniques that help children express their perception of the world and through this expression, giving the brain an opportunity to heal. The brain heals through the child moving emotionally to an earlier developmental age and playing out what she experienced and perceived and having an attuned adult present (Lynn and her care givers). The brain heals through relationships that are loving and empathic. Through repeated experiences of these kinds of attuned relationships, the brain shifts from perceiving the world as a safeplace wher the brain can explore and learn. The brain thrives to heal and restructure in an optimal manner.
Lynn includes the parents in the counseling process and helps them to understand their child's behaviors. She gives the parents options of how to respond to the child'sbehavior and works in collaboration with the parents. The parents are living the the child and know best what will be effective with their child.
Lynn's life experiences have assisted her in understanding her clients. Through practicing the healing methods she uses with her clients, she knows the potentials and also the barriers to healing. Lynn was a foster parent for 10 years, parenting traumatized children--this brought a deeper understanding of how to parent children who are struggling inside themselves. This was both a challenge and also a gift. Lynn has survived the deaths of her son, brother, and father.
